Where would we be without music? Life needs a soundtrack and thankfully there are bands like Mayweather to provide such a thing. We sat down with Peter Edwards to talk about life in the business of making music.
So tell us how the band came to be?
It all started with Dave (Bass) Karl (Guitar) and myself (Drums). Karl and I were best buddies in School and have been in bands together ever since. After losing our singer in 2010 a mate of ours suggested we get in touch with a guy called Tommy Woolcock. He came out to practice, sang two lines and we were sold! Dan (Guitar) a friend we have known for a while joined a short time after.
What inspired your sound and which bands inspire you to make music?
We all grew up listening to Punk Rock. Bands like NOFX, Bad Religion and Millencolin so you could say we have Punk Rock in our hearts. We also get a lot of inspiration from some great Australian bands like Gyroscope and Trial Kennedy.
Music and moto go hand in hand, do any of you guys ride or do any action sports?
We have a lot of friends who ride Moto X, BMX both here and in the states, does that count? Haha! I like to go skateboarding every now and then but nothing too ‘extreme’.
Anyone I have ever known in a band say that it’s a hell of a lot of work so how have you found it since you guys first started out?
Definitely. The amount of time, money and effort that goes into it is a lot but it’s something we love and are passionate about. We have had times where we have had to loan our equipment to a pawn shop just so we can play the next show. But we wouldn’t trade it for anything. We believe in our music and we have a lot of fun doing it.
We’ve seen your latest music video "Horror Scene", tell us a bit about how that went down and the process behind it?
We were contacted by a couple of guys called Mike Williamson and Mike Tessari after releasing our second EP ‘Take Back Everything’. We checked out a few locations and ended up finding an abandoned office. It suited perfectly. We just set up our gear, some lights, two generators and went for it. It was really cool.
So where to from here, what are the goals for the band?
We have a bunch of shows lined up and are planning to play more interstate this year. Playing live is something you can’t beat and we just want to get our music out to as many people as possible. We believe in our music and if it can bring a smile to someone’s face or make them feel a certain way, that’s all that matters to us. We have also started writing for an album that we hope to finish by the end of the year.
How do the fans get hold of your music and where can they see you guys play?
All our music is available at http://mayweatherband.bandcamp.com. We mainly play in Adelaide, South Australia but will also be heading to Melbourne, Gold Coast and Perth this year.
Lastly, have you any shout outs to anyone that has helped out along the way?
Our Family, Friends and anyone who has ever seen us live, listened to our songs or bought some of our merch. Cheers. It means the world to us.
